Report: Obama wants to give Jerusalem to Palestinians

Tuesday, November 04, 2008 |  Israel Today Staff

During his recent campaign visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority-controlled territories, US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama reportedly told Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas that he supports Palestinian claims to half of Jerusalem.

The Lebanese newspaper al-Ahbar in its story cited senior Palestinian sources in Ramallah who said that Obama had insisted on his declaration of support remaining secret for the time being.

Obama took a lot of heat earlier in his campaign for appearing to support an undivided Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, only to retract that support the very next day.

The sources went on to say that Abbas is eager for an Obama victory.

During his campaign stop in the region, Republican presidential candidate John McCain did not go to Ramallah or meet with any Palestinian leaders.
