Iran could have nuclear bomb this year

The head of Israel’s Military Intelligence Research Division on Monday said that Iran is just one year away from having everything it needs to assemble an arsenal of nuclear weapons.

Speaking before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Brig.-Gen. Yossi Beiditz said that the Islamic Republic is expected to have produced enough fissile material to build its first nuclear bomb by the end of this year.

Beiditz said the most worrying thing about the situation is how fast Iran is progressing with both its nuclear program and its long-range missile program, both of which are far ahead of where international estimates put them a few years ago.

“The Iranian clock precedes the international diplomacy clock,” noted Beiditz, which is concerning considering US President Barack Obama’s intention to open a whole new round of negotiations with no timetable.
