If you notice The book of Acts breaks off suddenly with no formal conclusion to what God did through the Holy Spirit and the NT apostles. God intends that the acts of the Holy Spirit and the preaching of the gospel continue in the lives of Christ''s people until the end of the age.

It is not my name I would hide. I am not anybody anyone would know. But I have family sensitive family issues that require a degree of "security." No Paul was not negative about gifts, to the contrary. But he very strongly cautions against any kind of spiritual pride. I believe there certainly is a lot of wrong teachings about the "baptism" of the Holy Spirit. My issue would be with those who say tongues is a sign of being baptized by the Spirit or that all should have it or that it is some test of holiness. It is none of those things. I personally do not believe in a private tongue or prayer language. But I do not question the spirituality or relationship of those who do. Many with the gift and many without the gift do NOT practice the love of which you talk or the wisdom of the spirit in their communications with fellow brothers in Christ. These things should not be. Read his book many years ago and it seemed to be a balanced and Biblical perspective on gifts of the Spirit. He relates therein a story of a women who prayed in tongues speaking in Hebrew when she herself knew nothing of the language. A woman visitor, a Jew, stood up and questioned how this women who did not know Hebrew could speak to her not just in Hebrew, but even in her particular dialect. The Jewish woman got saved then and there. Those kind of stories send goose bumps up my spine. I myself was in an Assembly of God Church once where they had a "tongues time" The organ played weird music and place was given over for everyone to start praying in tongues all at the same time. It was to me quite frightening and not Biblical. My younger brother had to be "released" from his tongues. He could not control it. It frightened him as he did not wish to even do it. I have often wondered why in history the zeal of believers and miracles operations of the Spirit seemed to dry up after the early Church. Early Church fathers talk about it. The Catholic Church made up a lot of their own stories of miracles. But it seems to me (forgive me if I assume to know too much), that the promise of a New Covenant was made to the Jews. All the passages in the O.T were in the context of Jews. When Jews were believing, the Spirit''s outpouring was filling. When Jew''s as a nation, many Jews, receive their Messiah, then I believe we will again this outpouring. We may just be in the initial stages of this outpouring. But I believe the vast majority of this Moving of the Spirit will occur during the trib and the Kingdom itself. There is a direct relationship between the Jews believing Jesus and the Spiritual gifts. Food for thought, but take no offense none is intended.

I have been catching up on some posts (not X, and a few others), and have enjoyed and agreed with the discussions and the warnings about the emergent church, faith movement, signs and wonders. Since I do have a lot of agreement with the Messianic worship I also have a lot of fears of the Charismatics taking it over. I heard a well known Rabbi defend the genuineness of the Azuza Street Revival. That bothered me greatly. I have studied these "movement" such as latter rain and vineyard and manifest sons of destiny spin offs, seed faith, etc. They are all based upon a latterday outpouring of the Spirit and claim they have it. I believe there will be an outpouring of the Spirit but only in proportion to the Jews accepting the Gospel. Joel''s prophecy was specifically to the Jews, not the Church. Hello Brother, I guess great minds work together. I just posted the article about the Emerging Church/Word of "faith" movement on another page. It is a wake up call for those who have ears to hear.

It is soulical religion that would die before it was born if it was not for the soulical personalities that give life to each movement. The length of life of all soulical movements depends on the strength and tenacity of the personalities that control them. Remove the controlling person and death to the fad occurs almost instantaneously. Consider what would happen to the “Purpose Driven Life” craze

The living soul, when it is redeemed and sanctified, will glow with the life of Christ. Nothing about our testimony and impact for Christ is greater than living a life so full of Jesus Christ that we strike a chord of hunger to all those in our influence. But, that same soul was corrupted in Adam’s sin and became the seat of corruption in every person born to man. This nature of sin is conveyed to every child and we are born into sin (Psalm 51:5). Laodicea: the Plastic Church

The Emerging Church, as it has been named, could not fit the Biblical prophecy of Laodicea more perfectly. This model of the apostate church is said by men that are wiser than I am to represent 95 to 98 percent of the church world. To understand this horrible statistic we must look deeper than a surface view of beautiful people entering ornate churches. Even John the Revelator was fooled.
