For a country splintered by war, terror and illness one organization, thirty years later, is still meeting the needs of thousands. Yad Sarah remains Israel’s leading volunteer organization providing everything from free medical supplies to home care support, and many other important services, to anyone who asks for their assistance.
Yad Sarah has over 103 branches nationwide with only a few paid workers giving of their time and energy so that the injured athlete can have crutches, the elderly can receive free breathing machines and mothers can have pumps for breast feeding.
Recently, more than 6,000 volunteers were recognized at the Salute to Volunteers, Yad Sarah’s 30th birthday party, in which dignitaries such as President Moshe Katsav attended. Last year, Yad Sarah helped reduce the need for hospitalization as it aided 380,000 people and saved the nation more than $320 million in supplies.
