Most Israelis support Palestinian Unity Government
A poll fielded last week by the “Geneva Initiative” group found that most Israelis support negotiations with a Palestinian unity government which is being assembled these days by the Fatah and Hamas factions. The results of the poll will be presented today at a conference organized by the Geneva Initiative group

The poll, which covered the Jewish population only, was fielded last Monday and Tuesday by the Market Watch Institute led by Avinoam Brog. 500 people were polled with a margin of error of four percent.

The poll also shows that 45 percent of the people support negotiations with the Palestinian unity government and 43 percent are against. 64 percent support talking with Abu Mazen, 28 percent are against, and 30 percent support talking with Hamas. 63 percent oppose talking with Hamas. These numbers indicate a rise in the number of people who support negotiating with Hamas. Four months ago, only 12 percent supported and 76 percent opposed.

The participants were also asked what Israel should do politically with the situation that has emerged after the war. 61 percent are convinced that there is a need to negotiate with the Palestinian Authority in order to achieve a permanent settlement, and only eight percent support the realignment plan which includes unilateral withdrawals from parts of the West Bank.

Head of the Geneva Initiative group Gadi Blatiansky said in response that the results of the poll reflect the public’s strong wishes to see immediate negotiations with the Palestinians. “The public is braver than the government and they will push it to the negotiating table with the new Palestinian government, which signifies the end of the ‘no partner’ excuse era”, he added.

1 .  realistic.
israelis have turned practical and realistic.all it needed was defeat in lebanon.but no longer israel can dictate terms as in the past.it does not require much calirvoyance to see that israel is going to negotiate with hamaas.may be you can see israel pleading with hamaas for a negotiated settlement

2 .  I can''t believe it!
If this poll is right, I wonder what are they thinking??? Do they really think there will be peace with these people...wake up...we are all wanting you to take the bull by the horns and keep your land!! You remind me of the ten spies that kept you out of the promised land in the time of the Judges...Not much has changed...

3 .  Another skewed Poll???
The Geneva Initiative? Right!!! This unorthorized collection of liberal self appointees and liberal NGO"s (Non Governamental Organizations) have been trying to hobble & undermine genuine Israeli interests from day one. The whole concept & the results of their ministrations were flawed from the beginning. Skewed polling results are a time honored liberal tradition in the US & now it would seem in Israel. These groups represent no one but their self importent, liberal, crap for brains selves!!! They need to fold up their tents & fade away into the night as the lovers of darkness that they are..... God forbid that any sane person take them seriously!!!

4 .  Veil over their hearts
Shalom Phil!

With all due respect, you can''t expect much from either side when they have a veil over their hearts. However, as an Israeli, and you as an American, all we can do is preach the truth and allow Ruach Ha''Kodesh to do His work in their hearts. Eliyahu thought he was all alone until ELOHIM revealed the 7,000 that were true to Him. Blessings to you, Phil!

5 .  negotiate?
Sounds like the Israeli public is as dumb as the American public, and also following in their footsteps, i.e., the slide down into "liberalism", with total disregard for reality.

The only permanent settlement that the Palestinians want is the destruction of the state of Israel, how many times do people have to hear this from their, i.e., the Palestinians mouths, before they believe it?
