Thai mobile phone with Nazi symbols

I-Mobile, a wireless communications company in Thailand has launched two mobile phones with Nazi symbols and insignias printed on them.

The phones are designed with three penguins dressed in striped inmate uniforms and helmets saluting to a swastika.

I-Mobile is a daughter company of “Smart,” one of the largest telecommunications companies in Thailand.

The Israeli Embassy is planning on asking “Smart” to stop manufacturing the offensive phones and remove them from the shelves.

1 .  The salute does redefine things....remove it.
I''m Thai and I agree with what someone said about the salute being overlooked. Many of you seems to be concentrating on the swastika symbol and its history in Buddhist culture. That argument may have held more weight if the salure wasn''t there. With the salute there, it''s an entirely different thing. Now in 2007 we want Youtube to remove disparaging clips with feet on top of the King''s head. We should feel Israel''s pain and also honor and respect their culture by removing inappropriate depiction from the phones. Many of you are rationalizing. This is not right. The penguins are doing the nazi salute, there is no mistake what this means to anyone with a Jewish connection. This is one Thai that supports the removal of the picture. Freedom of speech doesn''t have to mean offending people. It should be applied to intelligent argument not offensive portrayals. On purpose? I don''t know. Many Thais may be oblivious to Israeli history. Nevertheless, once you''ve voiced your opionion, we should ho

3 .  comments by E.A
I disagree with the comments made by E.A on 9/23/2006 5:35 AM as Thailand has got nothing to do with China an has been an open democratic monarchy as long as it was formed,Thailand is a buddhist kingdom and the swastika is a significant ancient buddhist symbol which was used in buddhist temples when the germans were still barbaric tribes roaming the alps.Thailand was open to all foreign culture from the very early period way before the state of Israel was formed. In fact Thailand is one of the few countries in the world which wasn''t colonised by any foreign powers.Chinese and Thai culture varies by a vast degree. The only thing they have in common to the Chinese is probably their skin colour and religion.

''NO ONE killed Christ!''

That isn''t what it says in Matthew 27:25.

So stand up and take a bow!

5 .  Asian culture
Due to the many years the Chinese were dominated by Mao, there was no availability of any outside influences. Much of history in the world and most of the rest of the worlds progress was closed off to them. They do not know history. They don''t even know the basics on societies outside their own, they are just now catching up with the rest of the world, but still ignorance is no excuse. If you want to get along with the rest of the world all of a sudden, you need to learn about it!
They think reality in America is what they see in pirated copies of movies, profanities and all the movie industries evil glory. They know nothing of the Jews or their persecutions, the Bible, or anything. They are motvated by success as they see it...money.

6 .  regarding the NSM comment
I HOPE you don''t call yourself a Christian...spewing all that hatred for the Jewish race!
NO ONE killed Christ! He lay down HIS life as a perfect final sacrifice to RECONCILE the Jews and the Gentiles, so that through HIS blood we might ALL be saved! The ALMIGHTY did NOT condemn the JEWS or anyone...we condemn ourselves by hatred such as yours!
They did NOT kill the Messiah on Calvary or anywhere else! If you would READ the BIBLE with the HOLY SPIRIT guiding you through LOVE of CHRIST, you would KNOW that! JESUS said to love "AS I HAVE LOVED YOU!!!" HOW did HE love you? HE DIED FOR YOU!!! YOU should be willing to love your Jewish brothers and sisters the SAME WAY! HE also said that all of Isreal would be saved...I think you should pray for Israel, like God said we should do.

They that bless you, will I bless!   9/23/2006 5:21 AM
7 .  nazi/swastika phones
What is the difference..the Chinese need to be educated about everything! So did the world about Hitler and his hatred. Ignorance is no excuse! I say learn from the past and stop the insanity!
God help us all if the world keeps on this downward slide! (and it will!).

10 .  Nazzi Salute Continues to Escape notice!!!
To perdition for what the symbol used to mean: giving it the Nazi salute redefines it. Its Pegan origins aside: The above mentioned depiction is what is revelent to this sane discussion!!! No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care. Please, care enough to put your brain in motion before you engage your tongue!!!

"...all it takes for evil to prevail is for good mean to do nothing..."

Allowing or accepting is kind of like doing nothing don''t you think?

If this was something offensive to the followers of Islam wonder what the world would be saying and doing?
Tripping over themselves to apologize I am sure. (At the approprate threat of death, etc., by the followers).

12 .  Thai Phone & Coup
Was this God acting in the affairs of men or what. Also in a previous article. An aquiduct was mentioned between the Red Sea and Dead Sea.
Such a construction would change the salinityof the dead sea. The bible says the dead sea will one day have fish living in it. Is this the forfilment of another prophecy?

13 .  It is NOT the nazi symbol
The Nazi symbol and the Swastika does not look the same. It is true that the Nazis took the old symbol - also used by buddhist, but they turned the symbol 45 degrees. Therefor it is easy to see if it is the Nazi symbol or the Swastika. In Thailand many items are sold with the nazi symbol. Many Thais dosent know about Nazi and Hitler. Germany has in the past asked the Thai government to do something about the T-shirt and helmets being sold in the streets, it did work for a while. btw. the company that sell theese mobiles are NOT named Smart but Samart. The Swastika on the picture above is NOT the Nazi symbol, but the pinguins clearly have their right arm lifted as if they are saluting with a "Heil Hitler". Again it dosent mean that neither the designer nor the Samart company are nazis it does however show that they dont know anything about history. The phones are often made in China so instead of trying to "kill" the messenger it would be smarter to try an educate.

14 .  Deborah
Same here Deborah. How can you say someone''s comment is stupid unless you know about the matter you''re talking about. Just like I told Randy and Donna, I heard it from an American Indian lady and that was at the state museum of Harrisburg, PA where there is a great Indian exhibition and Indian arts and crafts sold at the gift shop. I made a comment on it that this was the symbol for the Nazis when the lady corrected me who herself is of Indian decent. If their and my comments are stupid then the Indian''s must be stupid as well and she doesn''t know what she is talking about. But if anyone should know it should be the person who is of the same ethnicity in which this xymbol was used. Apart from reading up on it yourself that is the next best information you can get from someone who represents the same group. Do you believe your country man what they say about a certain country or do you give more credit to someone who actually is from this country?

All in all it''s still sad since the swastika came t

16 .  Randy and Donna
Actually at the State Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania you will find leather bags with the swastika made of plastic beads. At the same time I saw this there was an American Indian lady who was there to visit. She explained to me that this symbol was used by various Indian tribes and had nada to do with what Hitler used it for. What you may not forget is that Hitler was steeped into the occult and of course if you deal with nature tribes they also incorporate a lot of those symbols into their nature worship without being satanic cults. Therefore the swastika was already there before Hitler used it and unfortunately it is being stigmatized because of what he did. Not saying it''s good but it''s still not of Nazi origin.

17 .  NSM and Jessica
Jessica,

There is too much anger and frustration coming out of NSM, this means that sadly, he or she belongs to the other side. He or she can not even write his/her name, but loves speaks out of hate. We will NOT copy that behavior because we will become one of them. NSM will be one of those that will be worshiping and idol when it starts doing false miracles. By the way, I encourage you to see from Blockbuster "the visitation" is about end times. You will see so many NSM''s worshiping the wrong person. Please expect venom coming from NSM after these comments, but don''t worry, we understand...

18 .  NSM
NSM why do read news on an Israeli site if you hate Jews so much? THink before you speak. You show too much immaturity in so little words. Too bad for your IGNORANCE. You are just as bad as anyone else. Learn the truth before you start spouting off your opinions. None of what you say is historical nor does it make any sense! Period.

19 .  Mega Kudos Deborah!!!
The Nazi salute gives away the whole ball game....and I mean GAME. So many are so quick to make excuses for bad people & the nasty things they do. Thanx for looking behind the curtain & revealing the evil one. We all have to be faithful to peek behind the curtain & not be so quick to shrug off the "little" things with politically correct alibies. I admire your thoroughness!!!

23 .  Stupid is as stupid allows
To the two former commentors,
you are only partially right. The
swastika was a religious symbol.
However the penguins are saluting
the swastica in the Hitler manner.
Perhaps you missed that small part of the article. Antisemitism must be exposed when found and your tollerance of it only exposes your ignorance.

Deborah   9/19/2006 6:38 PM
24 .  Even So
If you notice, I doubt that Asians salute their "peace" and "Good Luck" symbols in the same manner that Nazis saluted their swastika and der Furor.

It looks like when the Germans saluted to the "Ein volk, ein reich, ein furor" slogan.

Ed is right. Also it is an American Indian good luck symbol.

26 .  Swastika on Phone
This is a bit ridiculous. For those of you that DON''T know, the so-called Nazi symbol has been used for centuries by asian culture and is generally regarded as a sign of peace. Unfortunately, the Nazi''s did use this symbol and it''s affiliation with evil will never subside.

I understand why the Isaeli Embassy has concerns but this symbol is religious to many asians and this phone company probably DID NOT have any intention to offend anyone. Walk around in an Asian night market and you''ll find necklaces, bracelets and even earrings with this symbol.

if you''d like more information on the real origins of the swastika, please check it out on www.wikipedia.org.
