An Israeli was killed and three others wounded when a Palestinian Arab terrorist opened fire with a submachine gun in the Old City of Jerusalem on Sunday morning.

One of the victims is listed in serious condition. The other two, both police officers, were lightly injured. The fatality and the victim in serious condition are both civilians.

The attack occurred at one of the entrances to the Temple Mount. Unconfirmed reports suggest the terrorist dressed as an ultra-Orthodox Jew both to conceal his submachine gun and get closer to his victims.

Police officers at the scene returned fire and killed the terrorist, who was later identified as a Palestinian Arab resident of East Jerusalem.

Hamas issued a statement that did not explicitly claim credit for the attack, but did praise it as a “legitimate” act of resistance to Israel’s “occupation” of Jerusalem.

Last Wednesday a Palestinian terrorist stabbed two Israeli Border Police officers in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Security camera footage showed the teenage assailant wait until the officers had passed by and then stab one of the victims in the head.

The second officer, a 19-year-old female officer, shoved the terrorist away and grappled with him. She was subsequently stabbed a number of times before a civilian passerby used his personal firearm to shoot the terrorist.

The wounded officers also opened fire, killing the terrorist. Both victims suffered moderate injuries.
