The Dead Sea is the lowest place on earth. With its extremely high salinity, the lake is 428 meters below sea level. The Dead Sea forms part of the border between Israel and Jordan. Its southern end is near the Negev desert. The salt content of the Dead Sea is on average around 28%. (For comparison: the Mediterranean Sea has a salt content of 3.8%).
