MembersEye Drops Instead of Glasses

Ophthalmologists at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, in collaboration with the researchers at Bar Ilan University, have developed eye drops that repair the cornea.

The “nano-drops” have already been tested successfully on pigs. Clinical trials will follow this year.

Dr. David Smadja of Shaare Zedek Hospital expects the eye drops to eliminate the various types of refractive error that cause loss of vision. Once on the market, patients will be able to use an innovative new laser technology that clips to their smartphones to measure eyesight and etch a shallow shape into the cornea. The nano-drops will do the rest, reshaping the cornea and correcting eyesight.

While it’s all very exciting, it could still be some time before the product is available to the public. Reading glasses are not quite yet a thing...
