The tank features touch screens, integrated computers and virtual reality-based controls. The Merkava 4 also has a 30 percent greater firing range than its predecessor.

The most stunning innovation in this new tank is the driver’s helmet, dubbed “Iron View.” With it, the Merkava’s driver can fully maneuver via virtual reality without exposing himself outside the vehicle. The helmet provides a 360-degree of the tank’s surroundings, as well as direct control of the tank itself. This has also improved the ability for drivers to train, since the virtual reality inside the actual tank is almost identical to the virtual reality in the simulators.
