The BBC, Sky News, CNN and others have repeatedly published whatever Hamas provides them without a second thought, and certainly absent any fact-checking.
This was indisputably demonstrated this week in two separate but related segments on Sky News and CNN.
Talking with Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid on Sunday, Sky News correspondent Mark Austin stated emphatically:
“They have come with names now. They have compiled the names. They have registered the deaths!”
Lapid couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Why, he wondered, is the mainstream world media trusting the statements of a deceitful terrorist organization?
“Mark, you are taking those numbers from a terrorist organization that is lying through its teeth. This is propaganda,” insisted Lapid. “Sky News would be better off not trusting Hamas reports.”

Very soon after, and calling into question the list of “registered deaths” on which Austin based his reporting, CNN aired a clip in the background of its news segment that brought some embarrassment to the network.
In the scene, a Palestinian woman is seen wailing hysterically over a body in a white bag. As another man checks the bag, the body inside lifts its head slightly. Miracle of miracles, he’s alive!
Of course, he was never dead. And the woman in the clip deserves an Oscar nomination for her performance.
2/3 – But not long after, CNN airs this clip during a live broadcast, and we see one of Mark’s dead bodies move!
I wonder, @markaustintv, was this gentleman on the list shown to you by Hamas? pic.twitter.com/knSCeTAqZ0

We expect this of the Palestinians. There’s even a word for it here: Pallywood. It’s an integral part of the larger campaign to delegitimize and ultimately destroy Israel.
What frustrates Israel is that Pallywood is so successful. That the world media, people who purport to be trained professionals in reporting facts, are so easily duped. Or is it that they want to believe that what the terrorists tell them is true? After all, how hard was it to check that Hamas video clip to make sure all the bodies remained still? Did CNN not even look at it before going to air?
Either way, these and many other examples show why it is difficult, at best, to trust the mainstream media during major conflict in Israel.
