Alan Dershowitz offers to represent Hamas boss

But the prominent Jewish lawyer says Yahya Sinwar must first emerge from his Gaza tunnel and surrender to Israeli forces.

Prominent American-Jewish lawyer Alan Dershowitz has offered to represent Yahya Sinwar free of charge if the Gaza-based Hamas leader gives himself up.

“I have a deal for Sinwar,” Dershowitz said during an interview with Orthodox Jewish radio host Zev Brenner. “If you surrender, I will defend you. If you surrender and turn yourself over to the Israeli authorities, they will put you on trial, and I will be your defense attorney. Deal? Come out with your hands up, and you’ve got a pro-bono lawyers. And I may even win!”

The offer was made half-joking, and Dershowitz by no means believes Sinwar is innocent. In fact, he has been harshly critical of Hamas, and of Biden administration policies that are preventing Israel from defeating Hamas.

The real problem, of course, is that Sinwar and the legions of Hamas terrorists, activists and supporters around the world believe no crimes have been committed. From their point of view, torturing, abducting and slaughtering Israeli Jews in the most brutal fashion imaginable is entirely legitimate. Because in their eyes, every Israeli is an enemy combatant, and this is war. So in their eyes, it’s not murder or abduction. It’s killing enemy soldiers and taking prisoners of war.

Would Dershowitz be ready to argue that position? Doubtful.

The father of lies would have a problem with the “truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth” bit. There’s also a certain lawlessness present in Islam that even causes Islamic authorities problems. Wars proceed from men’s lusts, the perpetrators are still feeding that lust. The lawyer could usefully prosecute those that feed that lust in his nation. Hamas will recede when the fire is taken out of the lust.
