Memory that connects – A visit to the memorial hall for Israel’s fallen soldiers.

About three years ago, as part of my photography studies, I was assigned to take portraits of my family members. But my father is no longer alive. So I asked my mother to accompany me to the Memorial Hall for Fallen Soldiers. Soldiers from the Memorial Team were standing at the entrance and offered to accompany us. We declined. It was important to both of us to experience this first visit alone—at our own pace, in a personal way.

My father, Rahamim, was a paratrooper. In 1956, during Operation Kadesh in Sinai, he fought in the Battle of Mitla. He was wounded and later recognized as a disabled IDF veteran. In January 1997, he died, far too young, at the age of just 61. His name is listed in the hall in the section for IDF veterans who passed away after completing their service.

Today I returned for another visit. I wanted to write about this special place—from my own story, in memory of the fallen soldiers of the IDF. To my delight, my wish was granted. Anat put me...
