The situation has even resulted in a number of Arab states quietly cooperating with Israel, despite an ongoing lack of official diplomatic relations.
And that’s starting to concern some in the Arab world. Salah Diab, an Egyptian businessman and the owner of the daily Al-Masri Al-Yawm, sees it as a kind of secondary Iranian threat. Arab states are being driven into Israel’s arms absent any of their demands being met.
“What is presently needed is a visionary who can revive the Camp David Accords, before some Arab state becomes entangled in the hasty establishment of relations with Israel just in order to use its help against Iran,” Diab wrote in a series of recent articles.
But, in order to achieve such a peace, which Diab envisions weakening Iran’s influence, the Arabs must move away from demonizing Israel. “True, we [Egypt] made a peace, but without normalization.
