“The transfer of the [US] embassy [to Jerusalem] will only bring the possibility of a diplomatic solution closer,” he added.

At the hearing being held to consider President Donald Trump’s proposed relocation of the US Embassy, many members of Congress said they had always wondered why Israel was the one country where America’s embassy was not located in the national capital.

Gold stressed that by failing to officially recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the US was helping to feed the dangerous fantasy that Israel is illegitimate and naught but a temporary phenomenon. And, in this way, America was actually helping to defeat some of its own core values, since overwhelming evidence had demonstrated that Israel is the only power in the Middle East willing to and capable of protecting pluralism and religious freedom.
