Highway 31, which covers a long stretch from the coast to the Dead Sea, was reopened to traffic following a long period of work to expand the road.
Known to many as the “highway of death,” more fatal accidents had happened on this road than any other in Israel. Now, there are two lanes in each direction, and in between a concrete barrier. The journey from Shoket Junction just north of Beersheva to Arad is now far more comfortable and safe.
The expansion cost over one billion shekels ($283 million).
