It seemed at first to be a positive presentation of Evangelical Christian support for the Jews and the State of Israel. But it soon became apparent that some Israelis don’t trust these friends in the West.
“For the Evangelical redemption scenario, the Christians need the third Jewish temple, right? Now, that tells us that what stands there now cannot continue to be there,” noted Dr. Tomer Persico of the Shalom Hartman Institute. Chemi Shalev, a journalist for the left-wing Ha’aretz newspaper, added that “according to the Evangelical vision, the Jews have to convert, and those who won’t, their situation won’t be very good in the last days. Lately, they [the Evangelicals] understood that this topic is sensitive, so they’re trying to hide this aspect and just support the State of Israel.”
In their eyes, Evangelical Christians have a clear political agenda, and could even provoke an armed conflict to see it achieved.
