MembersNEW AQUARIUM IN JERUSALEM

The Israel Aquarium adjacent to the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem is finally finished after eight years of construction.

The 7000-square-meter (75,000-squarefoot) facility with its numerous pools cost over 25 million dollars. The aquarium focuses on the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, and serves above all to raise awareness about the protection of marine life.

There are seahorses, perch, barracudas, turtles, eels, jellyfish and even sharks from over 20 countries and regions, including Kenya, Indonesia, Portugal and the Netherlands. The seawater is optimally adjusted for each species. Shai Doron, the director of both the zoo and the aquarium, explained that normal sea water is too polluted for their needs, requiring that experts prepare the water on site.
