Shark Alert!

A big school of sharks has visited Israel’s Mediterranean coast.

About 150 of the scary creatures gathered in the shallow waters alongside the sandy beach in the city of Hadera. According to the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, attacks on people aren’t usually attributed to these sandbar sharks, but the endangered species are unpredictable and swimming up to them is unwise.

The sharks are attracted to the warm waters emitted by the turbines of the Hadera power station. The number of these predators swimming along the shoreline has been increasing annually, but this group is by far the largest ever to appear on Israel’s coast. The spectacle has been a draw for divers and laymen alike, who have flocked to the coast for a first-hand look.
