However, the mid-June terrorist shootings that killed four at a restaurant in Tel Aviv and 50 at a gay club in Orlando, Florida again demonstrated that both Israel and the United States are doing their best to ignore such sage advice.

 

The deliberate failure of President Barack Obama to acknowledge the Islamic background of the Orlando shooter was glaring, but not unexpected. Obama, like most Western leaders of late, has been on a determined campaign to redefine Islam as an ideology compatible with the values of liberal societies.

 

It was not always so, as America’s sixth president John Quincy Adams once said in an essay: “He [Mohammed] declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE [Adam’s capital letters].”
