The 17-minute film, titled Underneath Al-Aqsa, was produced by the radical Islamic Movement in Israel. It claims that the tunnels are an Israeli plot to undermine the foundations of the mosque, the third holiest place in Islam, and build the Third Temple.
The documentary is based on a slogan that sparked the wave of Palestinian terror that began in September: “The Al-Aqsa Mosque is in danger!” declares Islamic Movement leader Sheikh Raed Salah in the video. “The occupation is openly committing crimes…including the digging beneath Al-Aqsa, the daily Jewish storming of the mosque, the expelling of young Muslims stationed in Al-Aqsa to protect the mosque and the propaganda according to which Israel should impose its sovereignty on the Temple Mount.”
While Israel does have a network of tunnels running along the Western Wall adjacent to the Temple Mount, the video claims to show areas that extend under the mosque itself.
