Professional basketball player Omri Casspi, who last played for the NBA champions Golden State Warriors, has no doubt tried a lot of different things to improve performance. Now, he’s investing in Israeli start-up TwoDay Ltd., which analyzes intestinal microbial DNA to produce individualized nutritional recommendations.

The technology is based on a study by the Weizmann Institute. A nutritional profile requires a blood and a stool sample, which together show how that person’s body reacts to different foods. Until now, the company has focused on the treatment of diseases like diabetes. Expanding into sports was a natural next step, considering the focus athletes place on nutrition as a driver of top performance.
