We are going to visit our son Moran on the Golan Heights where he serves as an officer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

We are listening to the radio report about fierce wildfires around the northern port city of Haifa. Anat suggests that we take a detour through the Druze village of Daliat el Karmel on the southern slopes of the Carmel Mountains. This is one of the best places to get freshly-baked, fragrant pita bread, filled with tart labneh cheese, zaatar spice (hyssop) and olive oil. However, this tranquil area was suddenly a danger zone.
