The Palestinian Authority joined the rest of the world in marking International Women’s Day, but added a twist that might make most real feminists a little uneasy. A special feature broadcast on Palestinian Authority TV spent the bulk of its on-air time hailing the blood-soaked achievements of female terrorists, and especially female suicide bombers who had sacrificed themselves to murder many Israelis.

“We have had female martyrs, wounded, and prisoners,” said Amal Hamad, director of the Palestinian Women’s Union in Gaza, adding that “women were the first to take part in the battle.”

In an earlier special marking International Women’s Day 2017, PA TV did address the challenges facing women in a male-dominated society, but stopped very short of what most Westerners would today consider acceptable behavior.
