Gazans disappointed with their brothers in the ‘West Bank’

Palestinians in Gaza and the Palestinians in the biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria, referred to by the world as the “West Bank,” are not the best of friends. A look at relations between the various Palestinian groups in the country.

The fact that the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and the Palestinians in Judea and Samaria are not the best of friends was seen again yesterday when those in Judea and Samaria cheered and celebrated the release of Palestinian terrorists from Israeli prisons.

The population of the Gaza Strip, which has suffered from the Israeli bombing and the ground offensive and has been on the run since the war began, does not understand what their brothers and sisters in Judea and Samaria are so happy about. “They celebrate liberation on our backs. What’s in it for us? We suffer and they celebrate!” That’s how angry the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are at their siblings in the biblical mountains to the east.

We translated various statements from Palestinians on social and mainstream media. People abroad need to know that there has never been any real loyalty among Palestinians. Those in Jerusalem are the “noblest” of the Palestinians, followed by the Palestinians in the surrounding areas such as Bethlehem and Ramallah, then Hebron and the Falachim in the mountains of Judea and Samaria. Last are the Palestinians in Gaza, who no one within the overall Palestinian population really likes. When the idea of a Palestinian state emerged many years ago, Palestinians in Jerusalem feared that in the future Palestinians from the Gaza Strip would join the ranks of the Palestinian police and eventually “keep order” in East Jerusalem. This was a nightmare scenario for them because these people belong to an inferior group. From the outside everything often looks harmonious, but in reality the different groups among the Palestinians do not get along at all. And this is clearly reflected in the reports from the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

  • “Our brothers in the West Bank, who rejoice at the release of the 49 prisoners, remember well that we have lost 20,000 martyrs, we have more than 40,000 wounded and that entire neighborhoods have been destroyed. And you rejoice while we suffer. Some people could not separate from their children. A tax for the entire country, not just Gaza. Please respect our feelings. We are not just numbers. We are human too.”

  • “When your son came out of prison to hug you and shout ‘yes, mom,’ you knew full well that it was at the expense of my child, who no longer had the opportunity to say ‘yes, mom’ to me. Please respect us. We paid the price for your freedom from Israeli prisons by losing our loved ones.”

  • “Why not? Keep celebrating! Rejoice, you have no worries. We’ll be gone again in three days, then you’ll be even happier.”

  • “We don’t want the prisoners to be released. Return the Israeli hostages to Israel and stop shedding our blood.”

  • “Who wants 2,000 people from the Gaza Strip in exchange for a Samsung Type C charger? My charger is broken.”

  • “It’s nothing. You can celebrate. The people of Gaza don’t have electricity or internet to watch you all celebrate anyway.”

  • “If I were a prisoner and immediately upon my release I was told that the price of my freedom was the lives of thousands of martyrs, I would go back to prison. What do you think of those who celebrate and give out sweets?”

  • “To the celebrations and fireworks of the residents of Nablus: We are not your brothers and you are not our brothers. The residents of Nablus celebrate the release of prisoners at the cost of 20,000 martyrs (dead) in the Gaza Strip.”

  • “Why is the blood of Gazans cheaper for many Palestinians?”

  • “As we clear away the rubble of our homes and bury the martyrs in Gaza, other Palestinians in Nablus in the West Bank eat and enjoy knafeh (a warm Levantine dessert made from a special curd).”

  • “Many of those released were about to end their sentences in just a few weeks anyway. If Israel wants, it can arrest them again immediately. This has happened in the past with the release of Gilad Shalit.”
