When it comes to cybersecurity, Israel is a global superpower. The Jewish state seemingly at will conducts devastating cyber attacks against enemies like Iran, while at the same time brushing aside hundreds of attacks on its own cyber assets every day.

Hamas is hoping to level the playing field a bit with the help of Malaysia.

Israel’s Kan News reported on Tuesday that Hamas in recent years has selected a handful of promising Palestinian students for advanced cyber-warfare training in the Asian nation. Hamas has been active in Malaysia for over a decade, according to the report.

In a possibly related development, Malaysian police reported this week that they had recently rescued a Palestinian man who was kidnapped by locals working for Israel’s Mossad spy agency.

The Palestinian man is said to be a computer programmer, and was abducted outside a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur on September 28. Another Palestinian who was with him at the time quickly ran to seek help from the police, who later found the victim being interrogated by his abductors at a remote house in the city.

Malaysian police officials seemed to confirm that the man is a member of Hamas, and said the local kidnappers were working for Israel’s Mossad to discover the extent of the Palestinian terror group’s cyber-related activities in the country.
