This Light (Gen.1:3) did not belong to the regular creation, nor did it partner with darkness. Instead “God separated the light from the darkness.” (v.4)Jewish sages taught that this Light shone for the seven Days of creation, and then it was hidden so that no one could gaze upon it. They understood Isa.30:26 (“the light of seven days”) referring to its return in the Last Days. For the Jewish people, this Light carries righteousness to fight spiritual darkness, and it is embedded (even personified) in the Messiah. This Light will wash the world from uncleanness, bringing redemption, truth and justice. It will shine from the righteous (Dan. 12:3).
Elsewhere we discover that this Light is nothing less than a projection of the Creator Himself! David calls the LORD “my Light and my Salvation” (Ps. 27:1). Isaiah foresaw the LORD shining on Israel as “an everlasting Light” (Isa. 60:20).
The gold lampstand in the Temple symbolized this holy Light: not used for any purpose, but never allowed to go out; hidden from all except the few priests serving in the Sanctuary. The Hanukkah...
