Netanyahu’s government moves further to the Right after failed attempt for form unity coalition with Left

The past few days have seen a tremendous amount of political drama in Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been ruling for the past year with a narrow 61-seat majority coalition, and has been anxious to further bolster that number and avoid early elections.

Netanyahu made serious overtures recently to opposition leader Isaac Herzog (Labor), who was himself anxious to enter the coalition and flex his political muscles.

But internal party politics scuttled the possibility of a unity coalition, leading Netanyahu with take his government further to the Right, which resulted a mini-revolt within his own Likud party.
