The Economist recently published a list of the world’s most expensive cities, and Tel Aviv came in ninth place.
Among other telling figures, the study found that it is 79 percent more expensive to own a car in Tel Aviv than it is in most US cities. At the same time, an Israeli earns less than half what an American is paid. The article also highlighted the exorbitant prices of common foods in Israel.
The most expensive city in the world according to The Economist is Singapore, followed by Paris, Zurich, Hong Kong and Oslo. Among the cheapest cities are Damascus and Caracas.
