A new museum dedicated to the legendary Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has opened to the public coinciding with the 12th anniversary of his death.

It is located at the Muqata, Palestinian Authority headquarters in Ramallah.

Arafat’s small bedroom where he was confined during the last three years of his life under an Israeli siege is a centerpiece. Israel imposed the blockade after it was proven that he was the organizer and chief instigator of the bloody Second Intifada (Palestinian uprising) that was taking place at the time.

Details of Arafat’s illness and death are described with special attention given to Israel’s alleged culpability. Palestinians still accuse Israel of poisoning Arafat who died of a mysterious sickness in 2004 at the age of 75—though Israel denies it and tests by top international labs were inconclusive.
