
These used to be sporting games and competitions between countries on a purely non-political basis. Just sports. However, like every year, there are those who try to politicize the Olympic Games and demonize Israel, elements that try to be more Palestinian than the Palestinians themselves.
This time there was an Algerian, a Sudanese and a Lebanese who refused to compete against their Israeli counterparts. Sudanese Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Youssef Adam Al-Dhi, explained that it was an injury that was preventing his nation’s athlete from competing, but it was not clear how reliable this statement was.
The allegations made by athletes who boycott the Games are that the State of Israel is occupying the land of another people and abuses the Palestinian Arabs. Relations with Israel should not be normalized, including at the level of the Olympic Games. Israel should not be recognized and should be boycotted. These are all well-known charges among those who boycott Israelis, but the truth is different.
