Sometimes it seems as if we only want one thing: to move forward. To reach the next goal, solve the next problem, or realize the next dream.

Weekly Reading – דְּבָרִים – Devarim – Talking ; Deuteronomy 1:1-3:22 ; Isaiah 1:1-27

We live in a time where everything is supposed to accelerate. The news is overwhelming, the challenges are mounting, and no sooner have we reached one goal than the next one awaits us. Israel, in particular, is experiencing such times: wars, political tensions, social debates, and the constant question of what the future holds. Our gaze is almost automatically directed forward. But it is precisely in such moments that the Word of God reminds us of something we easily forget: Before we take the next step, we sometimes have to stop. Before we can shape the future, we must understand the path God has already walked with us. This is precisely the point of departure for this week’s reading. Shortly before the entry into the Promised Land, Moses stops the people, looks back, and invites Israel to reconsider its own history.
