In 2017 Iran placed a massive digital clock in Tehran’s Palestine Square counting down the days until Israel’s destruction. This week that clock went dark.

The digital countdown showed the number of days remaining until the Jewish state’s demise. It was based on a 2015 “prophecy” by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that in another 25 years (by the year 2040), Israel would no longer exist.

Journalist Assad Hanna reported this week that the display is now an empty black screen.

It’s not just the doomsday clock. Traffic lights, public transportation, telecommunications, everything has gone dark for long hours at a time. Many businesses are simply unable to operate under the current circumstances.

The entire country of Iran has been suffering crippling power shortages for the past week. The primary reason for this is a stifling summer heatwave and the increased use of air conditioning. Iran is also suffering a drought, leaving its hydroelectric plants unable to fill their quotas.

Iran’s entire electrical infrastructure is in urgent need of upgrades and maintenance following years of punishing international sanctions.
