On August 17, 2022, the Turkish embassy in Israel and the Israeli embassy in Turkey reopened after being closed for twelve years, since the Mavi Marmara incident in May 2010.
The reopening of the embassies is part of the normalization process between Israel and Turkey, a political move that will benefit both sides. Turkey needs to increase its income to strengthen its economy. The State of Israel wants the normalization with Turkey to lead to cooperation together with other Turkish countries against Iran.
How can the Jewish state make such a political move?
These days, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan understands that Turkey needs Israel as an ally, especially in light of the status of the Turkish lira following the coronavirus pandemic. The trade between Turkey and Israel in 2021 reached 7 billion shekels and most of it was Turkish exports to Israel.
