On the morning of Oct. 7, 2023, while trying to understand what was happening and keep my own family safe, I had one thought: this is the moment.

This is when millions of Christians who have promised to stand with Israel will show the Jewish people that they are not alone.

The antisemitic crowds arrived first.

They were on campuses and in city centers before Israel had even begun its military response. Some denied the massacre. Some excused it. Some even celebrated it. Jewish students found themselves threatened and isolated.

Then came the silence that many Israelis noticed.

Not complete silence. Christian organizations issued statements. Churches gave money. Pastors spoke. But where were the large Christian demonstrations? Where were the Christian students standing beside Jewish students on hostile campuses? Where was the visible answer to the mobs?

For decades, Israel was told that millions of Christians stood behind it. On Oct. 7, that claim was tested.

Pastor Jim Scudder is one of the Christians who did not look away.
