Two Israeli soldiers were wounded, one seriously, in a terrorist shooting attack in Huwara in central Samaria on Saturday night. Terrorists got out of a passing vehicle and fled the scene.
The highway that runs through Huwara was closed immediately after the attack. A number of other roads in the region were also closed, including the approaches to Nablus (biblical Shechem), while security forces searched for the perpetrators.
After the attack, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant conducted a situation assessment with IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, Shin Bet head Ronen Bar and other senior defense officials.
This is the third terrorist attack in Huwara in a month. In early March, two brothers, Hallel and Yagel Yaniv, were murdered. Earlier this week, David Stern, an American-Israeli dual citizen and former US Marine, was shot in the head while driving through town with his family. He managed to return fire and injure the terrorist after he was shot.
“We will not make concessions to the government because we voted for them,” Samaria Council Chairman Yossi Dagan said in response. “The government is continuing the policies of the previous government. It’s beginning to feel like neglect. We demand the return of security checkpoints and confiscation of weapons.”
