A glimmer of light

Hamas atrocities provide a test to distinguish between humane and monstrous hearts.

Today I received an email. I had to rub my eyes several times to see that I was not mistaken. It was from Credit Bank in Switzerland, where we have a bank account for our Swiss customers.

On the one hand, this email is completely incomprehensible to me. We have no personal relationship with the bank in Switzerland. It serves as a kind of transit station from Switzerland to Israel. I don’t know the employees at the bank.

On the other hand, I understand through this email the magnitude of the world’s trauma and shock at the unveiled face of evil. In the face of cruelty and monstrosity that I don’t have words to describe. These accursed deeds pierced the heart of the world. The atrocities managed to move the hearts even of many who have no connection to nor affection for Israel.

And maybe these are small glimmers of light in all this darkness.

We are beginning to understand around the world, who are the monsters and the haters of man and the haters of God; and who are the human beings who love both man and God.

“Let there be light.” And here is the email:

Dear Mrs. Schneider.

We are all shocked and pained by the events that took place in Israel [on October 7].

As always, the safety and security of our customers and our employees are our top priority. We continue to closely monitor the developing situation in the hope of a quick end to the violence and bloodshed.

Please stay safe and know that we are ready to support you as much as we can. We hope for a quick and peaceful solution.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,

Peter N…
