No matter who we are or what we believe—whether secular or religious—the ninth day of the Jewish month of Av is a day of remembrance for a national catastrophe. This catastrophe affected everyone back then and was not selective. The last ten months will be remembered in the State of Israel, but unfortunately in a negative way. This day of mourning is always a warning that such events can happen again, and people must learn not to repeat the same mistakes. People need more love for one another to prevent another destruction of Israel.
The terrible attack on October 7 has not only traumatized Israeli society, but has also further divided it. I can say that today, unlike in the first weeks of the war. Who angers us more? Who bears more responsibility? Who should resign? Who ignored the warnings? Who unnecessarily put the existence of the only Jewish state at risk? Who threatens whom? Who should win the next election? And who overlooks the log in their own eye?
