The hope of a daughter of Zion

For over 20 years, Nechama has cared for and directed a government educational program for autistic children from grammar school until high school. Together with her husband, she has raised four boys aged 16 to 25 – two serve in IDF commando units, the third in intelligence, and youngest now preparing to follow his father and brothers in Israel’s elite “Shaked” fighting force.

Nechama served in the IDF in a search and rescue team, so she knows full well the dangers and the anxiety of serving in Israel’s military. Like most Jewish families, she is proud of her sons and their desire to defend their nation. A year after October 7th, things are not so simple, she explains:

“My oldest son was called up at 6:30 am that morning. After packing his military gear (commando soldiers in reserve store gear at home in readiness for emergencies), we drove him down south, and the face of my 25-year-old joyful son turned dark, his jaw tightened, his eyes glared black, and through clenched...
