Israel’s return to its land has restored the axis of blessing.

Weekly Portion – לֶךְ-לְךָ – Lech Lecha – Go forth! Genesis 12:1 – 17:27 / Isaiah 40:27 – 41:16

Why is little Israel, in the heart of world history, always so decisive? Why do the passions of nations flare up precisely there, more than in any other place on earth? Perhaps the answer lies in a single ancient sentence spoken to a man who was willing to go when God called him—a sentence that continues to move world history to this day:

“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

In Abraham’s time there were no social networks where people had to market themselves or strive for as many followers as possible. Today the rule is: the more followers, the greater the popularity. In our story, too, we encounter a call to follow: God says to Abraham Lech Lecha – “Go forth!” In other words, follow Me—there, it will truly become interesting for you.
