Defense Minister Israel Katz says now is the chance to fully destroy Hezbollah, and many Lebanese are hoping Israel will do just that.

As the Israeli bombing campaign against Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut and across Lebanon intensifies, IDF Intelligence officers have been reaching out to people in the country to urge evacuation from targeted areas.

Sometimes those quick phone calls turn into conversations between the Lebanese and the Arabic-speaking Israeli officers.

In one such call published on Monday, a Lebanese man pleads with the Israeli officer to finally defeat and remove Hezbollah. The Iranian terrorist proxy has over the course of decades brought Lebanon to ruin.

“Get rid of Hezbollah already—I’m with you, they forced us out of our homes,” the Lebanese man says. Asked by the Israeli officer if Hezbollah is threatening the average Lebanese citizens of Beirut, the man replies: “Of course. We want to rest in our homes with our children. We want to finish with this and live in freedom.”

Katz said during a visit to Northern Command on Monday that Hezbollah’s decision to join the Iran war had given Israel the justification it needed to put an end to the terror group.

Israeli ground forces have take up forward defensive positions in Southern Lebanon, and many expect a ground war will be necessary to create a new reality in the region.

Katz said Lebanon had brought this upon itself by failing to fully comply with the November 2025 ceasefire agreement, which obligated Beirut to disarm Hezbollah and all other non-state armed groups.

“We now see that they have not met their commitments, neither they nor the Lebanese army. They allowed Hezbollah to move south and did not prevent these things,” he stressed. “The conclusion is always that what we do not do, no one else will do.”
