Senior security circles in Jerusalem report that the ongoing confrontation with Iran, especially the attacks with ballistic missiles and drones on states in the region, is forcing the Gulf states into a fundamental reassessment of their security architecture. What had previously been considered sufficient is increasingly proving to be an uncoordinated mosaic of national capabilities without real integration. In this context, according to the assessment, the idea of a “Gulf NATO” is no longer a theoretical formula, but is developing into a seriously discussed strategic option. The debate has long since reached the highest political levels of the Gulf states. It is not for lack of means. On the contrary: some Gulf states have the highest defense budgets in the world and the most modern weapons systems, from fighter aircraft to highly advanced air defense systems. The deficit lies not in quantity, but in joint operational capability.
