Is this what Israel’s government wanted? Probably not. As in June 2025, when Donald Trump halted Israel’s Operation “Rising Lion” after 12 days, he has now put an end to “Roaring Lion” after 40 days. In both cases, Israel would have carried the war through to the end. But when Trump decides otherwise, Israel’s prime minister really has no choice. We all knew Trump is unpredictable, and that he has reasons of his own, which don’t always align with Israel’s interests. What determined the latest ceasefire was the sigh of relief from world markets, not Israel’s security, which was the actual reason for the war.
When great powers decide and Israel is allowed only to react, it recalls the age of biblical empires such as Babylon, Persia, and Egypt. That is precisely what the prophet Isaiah warns against:
