Her presentation took a particularly unusual turn when she spoke of dogs allegedly trained specifically in European countries and used for the sexual abuse of Palestinian prisoners. Europeans were even making money from selling such animals, Albanese stated. She presented no evidence at the hearing for any such training or organized trade.
This gave the already heated debate a remarkable zoological twist: specially trained dogs are now purportedly part of an international business model for the abuse of prisoners.
Israel and Jewish community react sharply
The Israeli Foreign Ministry firmly rejected the allegations. In a statement, it described Albanese as a conspiracy theorist consumed by her obsessive hatred of Israel. Her “despicable lies and grotesque accusations” were a disgrace to the United Nations.
The Representative Council of Irish Jewry also criticized both Albanese and the Irish Parliament. The organization took particular issue with the fact that members of parliament had not demanded any evidence for the serious allegations during the hearing.
“Not a single request for evidence. Not a single critical question about her most shocking claims. Instead, she received praise, admiration, and friendly photos,” the Council stated.
Indeed, following her appearance, Albanese was explicitly praised by Irish Senator Chris Andrews. He thanked her for her continued commitment and described it as inspiring.
Francesca Albanese is an unhinged conspiracy theorist consumed by her obsessive hatred of Israel.
Her vile lies and grotesque accusations are a disgrace to the @UN.

A long list of controversial statements
The latest remarks are not the first controversy surrounding the UN rapporteur. As early as 2022, previous statements she had made on social media became public, in which she claimed that the “Jewish lobby” controlled the United States. Albanese rejected the accusation of antisemitism and stated that her remarks had been misrepresented.
Following the Hamas massacre of October 7, 2023, she called for the attack to be viewed in a broader context and portrayed it as a response to alleged Israeli aggression.
In February 2026, she once again drew international criticism. At a conference hosted by broadcaster Al Jazeera, she spoke of a “common enemy of humanity” and criticized states that continue to support Israel militarily, politically, and economically. Several European foreign ministers condemned her remarks. Albanese subsequently denied having explicitly referred to Israel as the common enemy of humanity.
Last year, the Trump administration imposed sanctions on the UN rapporteur in connection with her activities and statements regarding Israel.
Ireland as the stage for the next confrontation
The hearing took place in a country whose relationship with Israel has been strained for years. Ireland was among the most vocal European critics of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and recognized a Palestinian state in 2024. Israel subsequently closed its embassy in Dublin.
During her appearance, Albanese urged the Irish government to take a more decisive stance toward Israel and to exert greater pressure on the Jewish state.
An important distinction must be noted here: as Special Rapporteur, Albanese holds an independent UN mandate. Her personal statements are not automatically official positions of the United Nations.
Criticism of her appearance is therefore directed not only at the allegations themselves, but also at the question of what responsibility an international human rights expert bears when making such serious accusations without publicly presenting any evidence.
