The Israeli daily newspaper Israel Hayom recently wondered if Arabs can be proud citizens of the Jewish state, and commissioned the New Wave Research Institute to find out. A total of 426 Israeli Arab adults were interviewed, and the results are quite amazing.

A full 60 percent of respondents described themselves as “very proud” or “rather proud” Israelis. Thirty-seven percent said they were “not proud” to be Israeli. An overwhelming 82 percent majority said they do not want to live under Palestinian rule. As for personal identity, 46 percent see themselves as “Israeli Arabs” and 42 percent as “Palestinian Arabs.” A firm majority believes that Jews have a historical connection to this land.
