The fact that in Israel, too, both left-wing and right-wing, religious and atheists, Ethiopians, setters, peace activists, divorced men, disabled citizens, Arabs, etc all make liberal use of their right to free assembly is rarely reported outside the Jewish state. Yet, Israel is a robustly democratic state, to the point that it seems as though someone, somewhere is constantly demonstrating about something. And that’s particularly true in Jerusalem, where there’s almost always some protest taking place outside the Knesset or opposite the Prime Minister’s official residence. The residents of Jerusalem have grown accustomed to traffic jams caused by demonstrators blocking the roads in order to get the attention of everyone else.
