MembersIndian Jews bring Bollywood to Israel

When a group of 19 Jewish youths from India visited Israel for the first time, they did the usual tourist program, but they also wanted to give something back to the Israelis who had received them so warmly.

The teenagers practiced a traditional Indian dance, which they later performed on the bustling pedestrian mall of Ben Yehudah Street in downtown Jerusalem. A giant loudspeaker boomed Bollywood tunes as the teens danced in traditional Indian garb.

The Israeli media enthusiastically covered the performance, not only because of the colorful display, but also because this group was made up of Bnei Menashe, members of a group that traces its lineage to the biblical Tribe of Manasseh. Their coming to Israel signifies a further fulfillment of prophecy. And who knew it would be accompanied by Bollywood music?
