We regret to inform our readers that wildfires have burned down our beautiful forest in northern Israel.

Last month when our TV crew headed up north for a production, they were shocked to find the Israel Today grove destroyed. Instead of lush oaks and bushy pines the trees were covered in dark black soot. When our colleague Rami Levi sent pictures of the scene back to us at our Jerusalem office, we were shocked. Even as I write this report my heart quivers to think that our forest is no more.

We were especially shaken by the news because we had been told by rangers from the Jewish Nation Fund (JNF) who care for the woodlands that the surging flames had not touched our trees. Back in November, after a wave of fires in the area, we had contacted the JNF to find out if our forest had been affected. They assured us that everything was fine—and only now have we learned the bitter truth.
