Striking It Rich

On the day before his wedding, a 26-year-old from Jerusalem won 15 million shekels (almost $4 million) in the lottery.

After shopping one day, he had 20 shekels ($5.25) in his wallet, so he thought he might as well fill out a lottery ticket.

“I never dreamed that we would have such a wedding gift!” said the new millionaire, who works in public services while studying economics. Now, the newlyweds are planning a late honeymoon in the United States instead of the original trip slated for northern Israel. However, they want to continue living a modest lifestyle and perhaps only buy an apartment with the winnings. “We will need the savings for the children,” they said.

For this occasion, the traditional marriage greeting Mazal Tov (good luck) may never have been more appropriate.
