Israel’s Surprisingly Superb Wine

Wine is mentioned often in the Bible, and continues to play an important role in Jewish rituals.

Now, Israeli wine has been highlighted by the magazine Wine Spectator, which is a type of “bible” to wine enthusiasts.

The latest issue of Wine Spectator was devoted to Israel’s wine industry, which the magazine found surprisingly good. Experts examined 120 Israeli wines, a full quarter of which were awarded at least 90 out of 100 points.

The review explained that while Israeli wines were originally intended for kosher-observant households, they are now also conquering the non-kosher world. The magazine further emphasized that there is no qualitative difference between a kosher and a non-kosher wine.

More and more gourmet restaurants around the world now have Israeli wines on the menu. For instance, trendy New York restaurant The Modern features four Israeli wines, a huge compliment to the local wine industry.
